Message from the Principal

Welcome to East Otago High School. As a school we pride ourselves on who we are and what we achieve. We take a real interest in the young people we are privileged to educate. We believe a critical factor in ensuring academic success is to foster and develop a positive relationship with students and their extended families. This is something we do and is a real advantage of our school. We offer all that many much larger educational institutions do, but in a much nicer environment.

Our students achieve. We produce high calibre young people who have the skills to become valued members of society. In seeking vibrant, outward looking, positive and active young people we aim for IMG_6259our students to be resilient and adaptable. They will live in a world of constant change. Many of them will end up in employment positions that have yet to be developed so they need the widest possible set of skills.

We take great satisfaction in the contribution we make to East Otago, the region we take great pride in. We actively support many local activities and organisations. The list includes our local A and P Society who hold a number of events throughout the year. Over the last few years the numbers of our students who involve themselves in local theatrical productions has continued to grow. Our students are also an integral part of significant formal events such as occur on ANZAC Day as well as providing community service to many within our region. We can justifiably say we are an integral and important part of the East Otago community and “proud to be Eastern”.

In both sporting and cultural activities our students have the chance to participate and excel. Students here play a wide range of team sports including rugby, netball, football, hockey, cricket, basketball, volleyball, touch, handball, dodgeball, futsal and curling. In addition, many students undertake individual sporting endeavours such as athletics, swimming, triathlons and cross country running just to name a few. Culturally, we have a strong kapa haka group developing within the school. In addition, itinerant music lessons and choir do much to foster the development well rounded young people.

We welcome all to visit our school. We offer small classes taken by a highly skilled and talented staff committed to providing the best possible education for all.
