Head Student – Kacey Clark

July 17, 2025

Kacey Clark, one of East Otago High School’s Deputy Head Students, began her journey at EOHS in Year 7, joining Mr. Cummings’ class. She arrived with excitement, drawn by the engaging opportunities like woodwork, home economics, and science experiments. Having attended Palmerston Primary School, Kacey had familiar faces in her class, which helped ease any initial nerves. During that first year, Head Students Hannah Paton and Lauren Keen served as strong female role models, inspiring Kacey.

For Kacey, the greatest strength of EOHS lies in its smaller size, fostering close-knit friendships and strong one-on-one relationships with teachers who truly get to know their students. Kacey has actively participated in a variety of sports, including touch, handball, basketball, volleyball, and netball. Beyond school sports, she’s been involved with the Duke of Edinburgh award at school, and Girl Guides and St. Johns outside of school. Kacey is particularly proud to be receiving her Queen’s Guide award from the Governor-General this weekend in Wellington. She is also just one badge away from completing her Grand Prior Award for St. John.

Looking ahead, Kacey plans to complete a hospitality course before travelling through the UK and Europe. Her parents are her biggest role models, and she hopes to eventually settle in Palmerston so her own children can attend EOHS. Her motto for this final year, “It’s my last year, why not,” has spurred her to embrace every opportunity, even participating in bike camp with the Outdoor Education class and Mr. Adamson, who has greatly encouraged her to push beyond her comfort zone.

Kacey’s words of wisdom for all EOHS students are simple: “Roll with the punches.” She encourages students to try new things and remember that each day offers a fresh start.
