Sport at EOHS

Hākinakina

Sport at East Otago High School is well recognised as providing students with the opportunity to reach for their goals and interact with friends outside of the classroom. Participation in sport throughout high school years helps in producing well rounded young adults and we encourage all students to sign up for a sport. At East Otago High School, we aim to establish a positive sporting culture within the school. We have high expectations for commitment, behaviour and sportsmanship, whether it be during a school house sport or a competitive competition; students should always respect the referee, their competitors, the coach and supporters.

We are lucky at East Otago High School to have experienced coaches amongst our staff, parents and community who along with some senior students volunteer their time to provide coaching and support for all our various teams. The school has a wide range of sporting equipment along with considerable sports grounds, outdoor courts for netball, tennis and basketball and a gymnasium.

Sporting success is always acknowledged, from those who achieve at a regional level all the way up to national representatives. Inter-House sporting competitions are held throughout the year and we also hold School Athletics, Swimming and Cross Country events. Inter-School Sports Exchanges are also held with Maniototo Area School and Tokomairiro High School each year.
